Starting a Ecommerce Business sounds great. Low investment, great
opportunities!
However 85% of new ecommerce businesses do not make it till the
end of the year. another 10% will not make any significant income
from the ecommerce web site within 12 months.
Why? Most start-up ecommerce
online store lack:
- basic computer knowledge
- basic marketing knowledge
- basic email/ communication skills
- not having a good product with reasonable markup
- basic knowledge about their products
- no/ almost no money to invest
Most Start-up ecommerce companies are unsuccessful as they
do not have any basic commercial/ computer skills!
Other factors which make a ecommerce business more successfully/
profitable on the long term:
- competition/ market knowledge
- communication with (potential) clients
- new products/ updates, improved selection
- better suppliers, better quality
- get products in demand, what's hot?
- have information about products and related information

SEO Search Engine Optimization
In the competitive world of pay-per-click and Internet advertising, most businesses only can be successfull when a cost-effective Internet marketing plan can provide enough visitors to the web site for a reasonable cost: SEO/ Search Engine Optimization is essential for 80% of online bussinesses.
SEO/ Search Engine Optimization = Have a well designed web site which will generate top ranking in search engines, in the organic search (not pay-per-click)
SEO/ Search Engine Optimization should start even before developing the web site. It is significant more effective to have a web site designed with SEO in mind instead of hiring an SEO/ Search Engine Optimization consukltant/ company after the site is done.
Compared with a normal business, a ecommerce business is fairly
simple to get started. This does not mean everybody is successfull however.
The old fashion business needs a Marketing Plan, financing of
the bank to get it started.
Ecommerce can start with sampling the market with the product
you would like to sell on Ebay. See the feedback, see or it is
hot. When you do not get any feedback or positive response you
might consider to not even start the ecommerce business.
My advice to 50% of start-ups is not to get started but really
rephrase the goals and product/market.
There has to be a need for your product!
Positive:
Flexible: when you find a good niche, get the products a competitive
prices, live might be great. No 9-5 job. You can work 20 hours
or 60 hours. Visit the beach during the week and work a little
harder one of the nights.
Overhead: Most ecommerce can be run out of your home (until you
grow too big), which keeps cost down. No fancy employees or high
rent for a store.
I am specializing in start-up small businesses, to get real
cash flow with an ecommerce solution!
